Epichlorohydrin rubber (ECH / ECO) has properties similar to nitrile rubber but with better heat, oil and petrol resistance. It’s a superior grade, multipurpose polymer that’s used extensively in fuel applications such as automotive fuel systems, bladders and die-cut sealing. It exhibits excellent resistance to acids, alkalis and ozone exposure. Typical working temperatures range from -35°C to +125°C.
Epichlorohydrin Rubber (ECH / ECO) has gained popularity over the years in severe applications like arctic refueling hose tubes and other sealing conditions requiring low temperature flexibility. Epichlorohydrin rubber (ECH / ECO) has low gas permeability and better low temperature flexibility than Nitrile (NBR).
Among its many beneficial properties, Epichlorohydrin Rubber (ECH / ECO) also offers good resistance to bio-fuel and abrasion and provides superior strength against tears and resistance. However, its poor compression set limits its use as a sealing material. It’s important to note that Epichlorohydrin Rubber (ECH / ECO) can have a corrosive effect on select metals, which can increase tooling costs and limit metal bonding applications.
