Nitrile (Buna-N / NBR) rubber is an economical material that provides high resistance to oils and hydrocarbon based fluids. It’s a synthetic rubber polymer known for its superior resistance to fuels such as kerosene, diesel, lubricating oils, grease and petroleum based transmission fluids.
Nitrile (Buna-N / NBR) is available in sheet, cloth inserted, extruded, or molded forms. It’s specifically formulated to prevent swell and sealing degradation. Nitrile (Buna-N / NBR) offers resistance to compression set and maintains its mechanical properties, especially tensile, to allow for years of trouble free service when properly applied.
Nitrile (Buna-N / NBR) provides a formulation of widely diverse polymers, collaborating to seal and protect in various applications from JP4 to splash guards in food preparation areas.
Nitrile (Buna-N / NBR) is available in several different grades. Keep in mind the higher the acrylonitrile (ACN) content, the higher the oil resistance – however the low temperature performance flexibility will be poor. As always, please review your application and chemical compatibility chart for proper selection.
It is not recommended for antioxidant agents, chlorine and polar liquids like ketones (acetone), ethers (degreasers), and amines (certain herbicides and fungicides). Nitrile (Buna-N / NBR) has poor weathering characteristics and is not recommended for use in environments where it can be attacked by ozone, ketones, esters, aldehydes, chlorinated and nitro hydrocarbons.
